With the recognition of the importance of soils and soil organisms in providing the essential ecosystem functions to life on Earth, community investigations are beginning to characterize species by their prevalence. With so many unknown species yet to be discovered, how do researchers begin to get species listed as threatened/endangered? What about microbes?
